Company History
In 1957, brothers Tom and Bill Rutherford opened Atlas Construction Specialties in a small garage in Seattle’s Ballard neighborhood. The early product line was limited, yet essential to the building industry. The company moved to it’s current location in Seattle’s Interbay neighborhood in 1959, and the brothers began manufacturing their own line of snap ties.
Atlas experienced its first significant growth during the 1960s when Seattle played host to the World’s Fair. Atlas products were used on the city’s iconic Space Needle and multiple structures at the Seattle Center site. Since that time, our products have become components to nearly every large commercial construction project in Seattle.
Over the years, the business has remained family owned and operated and has expanded to two locations. In 2008, Atlas added a warehouse and yard in Pacific, Wash., to better serve the South Puget Sound. Our product line has also expanded and stayed relevant with the ever-changing technology and innovation of the construction industry. At every step, our company has deepened its commitment to customer service and retained the core focus of adding value to the contractors we supply.
